In this book we follow a young woman named Sally "Sal" Mitchell. She is recovering from a motor vehicle accident. She had a seizure and lost control of her car. She was declared brain dead, but a miracle happened. Sally woke up and was alive, only she had amnesia and could not remember anything from her past. She spent six years like this. She changed her name from Sally to Sal as she couldn't remember being Sally. She found love with a nice young doctor named Nathan. Things were going good. Until one day she was at the mall with her sister Joyce, where they experience a traumatic incident with what people are calling the sleep walkers. This changes Sal's life completely. She finds herself in the middle of this pandemic.
I fell in love with how innocent of a character Sally is. She wanted to believe the best of humanity. She wanted to find her memories, at the same time Sal liked who she had become. She searched to find the truth of what was happening to the world. She gets a letter about opening the broken door. She follows this letter to make a huge discovery. I feel that Sal handles her world very well. She doesn't sit and cry in a corner because of what life has dealt her. She has such a huge strength in her mind that makes me smile.
The plot was a bit difficult to believe at times. I think this is with any sci-fi and horror plot though. I did like the explanation given for the Sleepwalkers. If you do not have a science background at all it is very believable.
