I chose this book because it sounded amazing to me. I loved the idea of it. I had not read any other books with the same plot. I loved listening to this book. The author Jason, reads it and his emotions and enthusiasm while reading it is amazing. I think that really helped sell this book to me.
This was very much a YA novel. Simon is your typical nerdy high school boy. He falls in love with his best friend Kat. Simon gets sent away to boarding school. While away, Kat gets into trouble. Simon does all he can to save her. There is a company called The Company, they produce high tech virtual reality gear.
I loved how well Segel described Otherworld. I felt like I could see it. It was a very immersive experience for me. I loved all the people that Simon met while in Otherworld. It was very interesting to see how quickly Simon learned his new environment. I did feel the first chapter or two was a bit slow, but as the book went on it made sense why Segal went into such depth to explain the relationships and past. This really helped me understand why Simon was so motivated to save Kat.
Overall I felt the book was good, well written and easy to keep up with. I do feel that there were some unnecessary fillers like Simon talking with his dead Grandfather. I do not see what that added to the book as a whole.
