Open Earth by Sarah Mirk

Disclaimer: I was given a free copy of this graphic novel to read by Netgalley.com. Ages 18 and up only please.

Open Earth is a cute graphic novel following the first generation on the space station called California. The state of California had seceded from the United States, after the states went to hell.  They speak Spanglish, which was declared the national language of California. The main character Rigo, is beautiful. She is in love with several people. The story follows Rigo and her sexcapades around the station.

I love how positive poly was portrayed. It was not seen as dirty or wrong. I also loved that Rigo was a plus size woman who was super confident. Her size was never mentioned in a negative way. I also loved that she was Latina.  She did face issues in the story, but was able to talk freely about them with her parents and friends/lovers. I also loved how Spanish was used in this book. I feel it added to the authenticity of how California looks today and will continue to look in the future.

The adult scenes were wrote very well. The drawing were amazing. I loved the scene at the end with the parents. It showed that all generations still love to have sex and different types of sex. The scene in the zero gravity room was amazing, it was the perfect spot for that one.

I cannot wait to read more from this author.
